It is actually bigger than the institute building (bathrooms, gift shop, parking lot for visitors and hikers)--it's called Glen Helen, a real glen. An amazing, huge, wilderness just beside the bike path right in town. Wonderful trails, ancient rock outcroppings, shallow caves, a long bridge over the stream, a waterfall, wildflowers, and the magic waters of the yellow spring--dip your finger in it, make a mark on your forehead, and you are destined to return.

Beautiful, quiet and green. Lots of hiking trails. Stop inside the Museum to pick up a map and don't be afraid to ask what trail they recommend based on your ability/the group you're with.

The Glen has wonderful easy hiking. See the Yellow Spring for which the town is named.
