Produciendo Café en el Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde
When our visitors arrive at the Sanctuary, the first thing we will do is make a small introduction about our family project, we are guardians of 48 hectares of forest since 1999. During the walk to the plantation, we will talk about the history of coffee in the world and Costa Rica, and then explain on the plantation what permaculture consists of and sustainable farming versus monocultures. Also, learning about specialty coffee and the different ways of processing and finish with a visit to the drying area. On the way back you will have a coffee tasting in three different roasts and methods and each participant will learn how to prepare their own coffee in the proper way. In the end you will learn: how to be a more informed and smart buyer, make the most of the product and value the work behind each cup of coffee. Other things to note We are the only specialty organic coffee plantation in Monteverde. During the year coffee goes through different stages, therefore, depending on the season you will see different processes.
Cooking with a Costa Rican Family
After booking our experiences, you will arrive at our kitchen where you will be very welcome and where you will share a good time with an authentic Costa Rican family. After introducing ourselves and getting to know each other over a refreshing drink, we will take you on a tour of our organic garden, where you will learn about the different crops and aromatic plants, followed by picking some of the ingredients that we will use for the preparation of our dish. When we return to the kitchen we will prepare a refreshing mojito to proceed to prepare a typical dish with fresh ingredients, produced by us and our neighbors. At the end of the preparation of the dish, we will consume everything prepared in a family atmosphere. If you come with more time than agreed there is a good chance to observe some animals such as frogs, birds and sloth that live in our garden.
Finca El Paraiso Farm & Cheese Tour
This is a third generation, small scale, sustainable farm. The animals are pasture-fed and roam freely throughout the day. It is our vision to continue to operate this farm without the use of pesticides or chemical based fertilizers and to maintain a balance of pasturelands and forest. Guests are invited to take a tour of the farm. Come and see the cows up close and try your hand at milking. Take a tour of the garden, where you will find banana trees, the beginnings of a small scale coffee farm, and seasonal fruits and veggies under the care of our family. We also have sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry on the premises that are all a part of the farm operation. MonteVerde is an area with a rich history in dairy production. We invite to try fresh Costa Rican cheese. You can enjoy an authentic meal featuring the freshly made cheese, hand made tortillas, along with other locally sourced and seasonably available items. You will notice a difference in the quality of the food that is locally sourced and where animals are fed a natural diet. This is an opportunity to experience "La Pura Vida" at its finest. Find us in Waze or Google Maps as "Finca El Paraiso" Also we can set up transportation from Santa Elena/Monteverde town Check out our Instagram & Facebook @fincaparaisocr
Coffee Tour in harmony with nature
My family and I will explain our coffee farming experience so you'll have a better idea of what your lovely coffee means. Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from real farmers who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. You'll discover how to make a better cup of coffee, how to get what you want from a java cup, and learn about other products made with the coffee fruit. You'll support a family who'll give you a unique and authentic experience. Other things to note Come with hiking boots and long pants. You must drive to get to our farm or take a bus at 9 AM from Atenas.

Then we'll stop at a cafeteria, where we will have a chance to check some bird feeders as we enjoy a great cup of Costa Rican coffee. After that, we'll move up to Curicancha Reserve where we'll walk through two different life zones including different types of forests (secondary, transitional and primary) plus open areas where we'll be able to see much more variety of birds or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others. Kayak in bioluminescent waters
This kayak experience is not to be missed. What appears to be normal dark water, will light up WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. As the night grows dark, we'll step into our comfortable kayaks and get ready for a personal encounter with this remarkable phenomenon. We will lead you to the best spots, where sparkling algae accumulates. For a full hour, you will be enchanted by how every stroke of your paddle leaves behind a swirl of light, and fish light up their path like shooting stars in the water. You'll get a briefing, a suitable life jacket, before we go to the launch area for the kayaks. It will be like going on a cozy family tour, as the maximum group size is 10 people. We'll stop along the way, and explain more about the magical glowing water and marine life in the bay.
