The thirty by forty nine meter rectangular church serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Cristobal de la Habana.

The Cathedral of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception of Havana, is a Catholic temple, located in the heart of Old Havana, in the oldest area of the city, declared by UNESCO in 1982 a World Heritage Site. It is the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Havana, and its previous location was located where later the Palace of the General Captains was built.
