Close by state park in Niceville, Fl (about 8 mins away from Steel Magnolia) where you can rent kayaks, take a hike on one of their 3 trails (about 1-1.5 miles each) or take a swim in Rocky Bayou.

This state park is right down the street from the Clay House on Hwy 20. It's right on Rocky Bayou and has swimming and canoe and kayak rentals. It also has several different hiking trails. Entrance fee is nominal.

This park is a little bit farther from home, but it is still a great place to swim, fish, paddle, picnic or hike. It wraps around Rocky Bayou, an off shoot of Choctawhatchee Bay, and is a great day trip for communing with nature. floridastateparks.org
