The natural area contains five native Florida ecosystems: scrub, scrubby flatwoods, mesic flatwoods, hydric hammock, and sawgrass slough.
Blessed with an abundance of sunshine and foliage, two natural surface paths provide more than 2 miles of hiking within the preserve, which adjoins the Spanish River Library.
