Moseley in south-east Birmingham was this year named the best place in the UK for city living by the Sunday Times, beating London's Mayfair and Muswell Hill to the top spot. Judges commended its “village community” – and if pubs and parks are high on your list of desirables, Moseley certainly delivers.

Moseley Park &Pool

Enjoy one of Moseley’s hidden treasures, bring a picnic and find out how the landscape was designed by Humphry Repton. The large pool at Moseley Park was designed by Humphry Repton, as shown in his 1792 Red Book for John Taylor II of Moseley Hall. Walk round the pool, enjoy the peaceful oasis and test the echo in the well-preserved 18c icehouse. Wear clothing and footwear suitable for a country walk.
A great local gem, as seen here; The 600-year-old suburb topped the list of Britain’s top 50 urban districts and comes just days after a report ranked Birmingham alongside Rome in a global index rating the quality of life for city dwellers. Moseley was praised by judges for its "village community." The panel based its results on a number of factors including schools, crime rates, house prices and transport links, as well as "the expertise and knowledge of Sunday Times writers." The newspaper said the area's biggest asset was the 215-acre Cannon Hill Park with its lakes and formal gardens designed in the Victorian era.

Live music, soulfood sessions, community favorite

https://hareandhoundskingsheath.co.uk/ Situated in the South Birmingham suburb of Kings Heath, the Hare & Hounds has been around since 1820, but has stood in its present form since 1907. This is a major contributing factor to its current Grade II listed status, along with the beautiful and unique Art Nouveau tiles that line the entry hall and staircase. Although playing host to local Birmingham legends UB40’s first ever gig in 1979, it is only since 2007 that it’s really established itself as one of the most important and influential music venues in the country, playing a vital part in nurturing the city’s vibrant music and creative community. The pub boasts two downstairs bars which host a weekly pub quiz on Wednesdays, the hugely popular Blues Club on Saturday afternoons, comedy workshops and more. The two famous upstairs venues feature live music & club nights spanning jazz, indie, funk, reggae, hip hop, soul, house, techno, drum & bass and beyond.

Don't let the young-at-heart spirit of The Fighting Cocks fool you. This is a historic pub that’s right at the heart of Moseley’s heritage. Dating back to 1899, before this suburb had ever heard of pizzerias or tiki bars, The Fighting Cocks was once king of the village. The building’s red brick and stone frontage with Dutch gables and clock tower are reminiscent of Newtown’s Bartons Arms, but whereas the latter takes pride of place as a lone gem in an urban hinterland, the former is sometimes unappreciated, fogged by its vibrant surroundings. At the back, a small but perfectly formed beer garden sees the former stables play backdrop to various pieces of modern art (or tat, depending on your outlook). Inside, walnut panelling and wooden floors complement bright turquoise wall tiles, while Moseley’s trademark Minton floor tiles surround the bar and, in the dining room, tiled murals depict a bygone age.

An award-winning pub, bringing you an exciting drinking experience and a unique atmosphere in the heart of Moseley village. Built in 1860, The Prince of Wales is steeped in history, but it’s the Marsden family that has transformed the venue into something else entirely. Boasting three bars, a heated marquee and even it’s own tiki bar, it’s easy to see how this vision led to us being awarded the coveted BII (British Institute of Innkeepers) award.

We welcome visits from schools, colleges, interfaith groups and other interested parties. We can organise visiting speakers and meditation teachers. We also lead Buddhist funerals. We have experienced celebrants who are ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order. We have worked to improve the accessibility of our building, with ramped access to the front door, accessible toilet facilities and two lifts. If you have any particular questions, concerns or suggestions for improvement, please contact the Buddhist Centre office. Attached to the Buddhist Centre is a shop offering a wide range of Buddhist books and CDs, meditation and yoga equipment, incense, cards, Buddha figures, and more. The Buddhist Centre also has a well kept gardens at the rear which is available to use as a quiet space by our visitors. With a view to providing an establishment of the most up-to-date design on a site acquired in the busy Stratford Road, the Baths Committee visited other towns to examine the latest types of baths built, and furthermore, travelled to the Continent, where, particularly in Germany, much useful information was obtained. Sparkhill Baths Learners and Large SwimSparkhill Baths, opened on 29th July, 1931, is an establishment of which the Department is rightly proud. The building is of brick, relieved with reconstructed stone, and has a frontage to the main road of 126ft. The main swimming pool is 100ft. by 35ft., and has a depth of 9ft. at one end and 3ft. 6in, at the other. An interesting feature is the learners’ pool situated near the Entrance Hall, specially suited for the use of children, which is 32ft. by 21ft. 4in. and has a depth ranging from 2ft. 1in, at the shallow end to 3ft. 6in. at the deep end.
