Food Scene

It's super pretty and low-key for brunch. It also has brilliant food (albeit quite pricey). Remember to book a few days in advance though as it's very popular!

It's reasonably priced for high end Japanese food (relative to others in Singapore) and has amazing set lunches and omakase dinners! It also has great service and is a tiny little hole in the wall.

It has the best ice cream in Singapore, with exotic local flavours like Sea Salt Gula Melaka Ice Cream which is basically our local version of salted caramel (but better!). It is also a pretty little spot that locals love.

This has the best Pepper Crabs in town (you need to try Pepper Crabs NOT the touristy Chilli Crabs) and super yummy pork ribs and garlicky razor clams! It's where I bring all my friends when they visit!

You can't get a more authentically local experience than this. Housed in a carpark, serves yummy crabs, and modern local food that Singaporean foodies love (such as steak with heart attack fried rice). It is incredibly popular so don't forget to book in advance!

Drinks & Nightlife

I love the staff here - they're really passionate about their drinks and it shows in how meticulously they introduce each drink to customers. This bar also uses alcohol from around the region and they have really interesting stories to tell about whiskey from Bhutan, etc.

If you want to see modern Singapore chic, this is it. There are little hidden jokes in the menu design, the decor, the drinks etc - grab a local to explain it all to you and the entire bar comes alive with meaning. It's also a super place with friendly, welcoming staff and not at all pretentious. Love spending a weekday or weekend evening here people watching and whiling the time away.

Parks & Nature

If you walk from Kent Ridge ending up at Vivo City (with the Tree top Forest trail and Henderson Waves in between), you'll see sights of our harbour which is fundamental to Singapore's success and our HDB blocks which is the raw beating heart of Singapore. Basically if you take this walk, you'll get to see exactly what makes Singapore ticks, away from the shiny buildings and glitzy facade - ideally go with a local! It gets a bit hot so try to go earlier in the morning.

It reminds me of how Singapore used to be when I was growing up. It has a lazy vibe to it, where you can just cycle and watch people fish off the pier all day.

Arts & Culture

Singapore doesn't have any natural resources, we don't even have our own water. Our hunt for water has shaped our international relations and our national conscience. I think it's important for people to understand how precarious a position Singapore is in terms of our survival.

It's just gorgeous and I'm so proud of it. Singapore has not historically been a nation that is focused on art, but in recent years it has realised that art is a fundamental part of our history and our national consciousness. The National Gallery is a symbol of how far we've come as a country. I also find the Southeast Asia permanent exhibit fascinating as it's a pictorial representation of our history, and it's fascinating to see pictorially how far we've come in such a short span of time. There is a great free guided tour of the exhibit so do plan your trip around that. Also, nip up to Smoke & Mirrors for a great view of the city.
