Tintern Abbey built in 1253 By William Marshall was run by the Cistercian order of monks until it was taken by Henry VIII and given to the Colclough family in the 1500s. Tours at the abbey will expand on the history and are highly recommended.

Worth a visit especially if you are interested in gardening and flowers. The walled gardens had become overgrown and have been restored to their original layout and beauty. There is a vegetable growing area and a decorative area

Duncannon Fort
Duncannon Fort is an impressive presentation of a bastioned fortress perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford, part of Ireland’s Ancient East. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary.
This arboretum near New Ross, covers a massive 252 hectares on the summit and southern slopes of Slieve Coillte and contains 4,500 types of trees and shrubs from all temperate regions of the world. There are 200 forest plots grouped by continent.
The lake is perhaps the most picturesque part of the arboretum and is a haven for waterfowl. There are amazing panoramic views from the summit of the hill, 271 metres above sea level. A visitor centre houses engaging exhibitions on JFK and on the Arboretum itself.

We recommend a 9km walk around Tintern, along the shore road and back to Saltmills. You can stop in at the Vine Cottage pub for a well-earned pint on your way back.

Grange Beach is a sandy beach located in Fethard, County Wexford which merges into Banna Beach during low tide. As a result of the beach not being well sheltered from the wind, it is the prime location for many water sports like surfing and wind surfing

This lovely small cosey bar has a real homely atmosphere, have a drink or a coffee by the fire, but they also have a fantastic beer garden and serve food all day. It is a very popular spot with our guests, have a bite to eat and a drink, and then just amble back through the woods to the cottage.
