Food Scene

Really great food, friendly service, fantastic value. We eat here at least once a week and not just because it is 30seconds away. They have an Ockabasi grill and a good selection of salads. Good for meat eaters and vegetarians who dont mind the smell of BBQ.

Situated on the canal near the Here East complex on a strip with other eateries and bars. The Breakfast Club, though a popular chain are undeniably good and this is a particularly good location. Go before 10.30 at the weekends or late afternoon to avoid queues. It really is that good. Despite its popularity the location is still a hidden gem and relatveily unknown beyond locals. With lots of grass outside seating and deckchairs it is a great place to grab some sun and...it gets sun until the latest part o the day where the canal side spots in the Wick get eclipsed by shadowB

Music and events on nearly every night, changing art and good burgers. Lots of space so great for a crowd and a boogie and a burger.

A community based organisation whihc houses local artists and a range of interesting events. “This is a super gallery/artists space/cafe right in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium, on the opposite side of the canal in Hackney Wick. It’s home to several mixed media artists, there are art shows on constantly and a cafe that occupies both ground and first floors. In decent weather you can take your food out onto the deck and watch the canal boats go by. Stour Space is absolutely lovely – it represents the best of the friendly Hackney Wick arts scene”

Parks & Nature

A beautiful park with cafes, picnic benches, boating lake, skate park, playgrounds and batting cages (are tehy still called that for cricket?). Full of joggers, walkers, kids and on a sunny day just about every other type of group, gathering or sun dwelling individual. You often find people jamming on unusual instruments, listening to music on speakers, pic-nicing on rugs and benches. The park is so huge there are quiet corners, busy spots and lots of nature to sight. Swans, geese and coy carp all live in VP. There are a number of pubs dotted down Victoria park road and the into the Victoria Park village - head there for artisan bread or just more beers.

Only about a 15-20minute walk from the flat - if you stroll through the Westfield (Shopping heaven or hell depending on your inclination). This is a busy bus, train and underground interchange for city bods and should be avoided at rush hour if you are not used to the tubes. If you cant avoid it, push on, squeeze in and think of all the poor monkeys who do this twice a day - five days a week! Also - it is now 24hours at weekend.

Parking isnt brilliant around us - or anywhere in Zone 2. You can park for free on Sundays and before 8.30am or after 6pm. There is a parking meter on Wallis round but we advise you download the RingGo app to pay by credit card - as it is handy to get reminders of when parking will expire. You can also park on the Eastway (fewer spaces) or Cardagon Terrace. To pay you can also call up 02071250044. Parking fines are expensive - we try to avoid these! Check all the signs.

A 15min stroll away - this Tesco Metro is more reasonable and has all the basics. If you want boujie, head down to Broadway Market or Victoria Park village where you can find artisan butchers, fishmongers, bakers and organic veg a plenty.

Shopping

Head to the market on a Saturday to peruse all sorts of fineries (bespoke jewellery, handmade baby clothes and leather handbags). There is plenty of food, cupcakes and smoothies and the market is fringed by clothes, books and coffee shops - none of whihc are chains. On the north side of the market you will find the London Fields. Packed full of the beautiful, boozy and the hungover on any sunny day - think festival without the music. It's not uncommon to see a wedding party stroll through to hipster rapture. London park culture is something to be seen and LF is particualry fab. In the week the market is more chilled but you will still be hard pressed to get a seat in the many coffee shops.
