Most Monday's are no cover. PBR is $3. Seeing a show at random is one of the great things to do here, and why not if it's a free night. This place is right down the street, and I'd go as far as to say this is the the best venue to see a local band in Chicago.
Almost every night, live bands ranging from experimental to punk to rock (and even country on Fridays). This is one of the best places to catch a random music act you will find in any city.

Food Scene
On Saturday and Sunday around brunch time, you can sit at the bar at Empty Bottle and order from Bite next door. Go here. I haven't had anything to eat here that was less than fantastic. If you don't want a full meal get the breakfast tacos for $3 each.
Star Lounge is a vibrant place to get Dark Matter coffee. If you want quiet, they have an upstairs area.
BYOB, you can get PBRs next door at Empty Bottle. Highly recommend their food. Have good vegetarian offerings also.

Dark Matter coffee served, dark wood interior. Actual bar you can sit at. Great atmosphere for laptopping or a book. Back patio as well (i think smoking is allowed outside).
