End of the island at the Ranger Station you can buy tickets for $18.00 and they will take you to Cape Lookout. It is beautiful and you can pack up for the day and walk over to the Ocean. Dogs are allowed but the 6 foot leash rule is no fun. There are only bathrooms on the barrier island. The Cape is home to about 200 horses and the lighthouse. Take a shell bag!!!!

Right before the bridge you will see a parking lot for Harkers Island Beach. There are no waves and it is about 2-3 feet deep for a football field so great for the kids. Its a local spot and can be crowded on the weekend.

STUNNING AND MUST DO! End of the island behind the Ranger Station. Take chairs and there are several PRIVATE BEACHES. I take my dogs, if they listen you can off leash them. There is a map in this book. It is a local spot and if you need help finding it just let me know.

About 30 minutes and you can stay all day!!!!! It is very worth the drive. 10 miles of trails through the dunes and beautiful beaches. Tons of parking.

Again the Beaufort Ferry runs and it has a beautiful beach. This is where all my shells come from after a storm. “Shack” is known for the horses. They will gallop right by you on the beach.
There is a trick to shack, its called finding the dune trail and walking over to the amazing ocean side beach. Watch for the piles of horse poo……you have been warned!
