Our favorite restaurants on St Simons

Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria

Within walking distance, this place is so yummy! People actually stop in here to grab a slice - after coming from New York! Sal knows his stuff. Also, Sal himself is quite the character. A member of the boxing hall of fame and an actor on stage and screen, it’s always interesting here. Be aware that the hours are different for each day and during prime eating times, the wait can easily exceed 30 minutes. (But they will call you if you are waiting in your car.) They also have outdoor seating, but be sure to wear bug spray in the summer months. And, if you are celebrating a birthday, be sure to let your server know! They will ring the bell and the entire restaurant will sing to you.

You can get your typical bar food here as well some others like pizza and even fried shrimp. The onion rings are one of our favorites! They will even split your side order if you want - half onion rings (2) and half fries. They will also make you a special chicken tender basket even though it's not on the menu. While you're here, be sure to check out the artwork in the back. They have custom caricatures by Jack Davis for the GA/FL rivalry football games.

Brogen's North has been a neighborhood mainstay for many, many years. The food isn't fancy, but it sure is yummy. You can get your typical bar food here as well some others like pizza and even fried shrimp. The onion rings are one of our favorites! They will even split your side order if you want - half onion rings (2) and half fries. They will also make you a special chicken tender basket even though it's not on the menu. While you're here, be sure to check out the artwork in the back. They have custom caricatures by Jack Davis for the GA/FL rivalry football games.

Fancy Q Sushi Bar & Grill

If you want Sushi on St. Simons, this is the place to go! If you want hibachi, this is also the place to go! They don't have the table show that you might think of for Japanese restaurants, but the food is something special. Fried rice comes with veggies and egg, but they are accomodating and will do it without if you want. For a great deal, visit during lunchtime (before 3pm) as the prices are mostly under $10. And, no matter what time you come, you'll always get a free appetizer that they call an Eddie's special. Crab and cream cheese deep fried with white sauce and eel sauce, it is a delicious start to the meal. We have heard many people rave about the Saki bombs that they do although we haven't had them ourselves. They have a last call time posted which is usually about 45 minutes before actual closing time. (Closing time of 10:30 means last call is at 9:45. We LOVE this directness of expectations.)

I always get a combo platter (custom! yes, they will work with you) of fried shrimp and blackened scallops. My son's favorite is the 2 porkchops (these things are huge!) - perfect for a growing boy. And, my husband has two favorites. He really likes the Shrimp & Grits, although he orders them with loose grits. (They come with a grit cake standard, so you have to ask for this change.) And, the Terriyaki Scallops. All meals come with a bottomless salad served family style that has 3 home made dressing options. (They bring all 3 to the table.) Our favorite is the house dressing. The other 2 are ranch and blue cheese. Be sure to save room for dessert! Both the bread pudding and the creme brulee are amazing. If you don't have room, you can definitely get them to go. For the bread pudding, ask them to put the sauce on the side or it will be a soggy mess when you get to it later.

Some things to note: The seats are hard wooden benches and almost all tables are booths. There is outside seating available. For parties over 6, they have a divider that comes out between two booths. So, you have two booths side by side but with a half wall between the two. Kind of a unique way to allow for larger parties. Country music is often included in the line-up here. (I mention this because my husband doesn't care for the surprise. And, maybe you don't too?) Parking can be tough in this area, so it is sometimes easier to use Lyft or Uber - especially in the summer.

Part of the history of St. Simons. There aren't a lot of standing structures here, and the site is an ongoing excavation. But, the views are beautiful and you can learn more about the history of St. Simons. Children under 16 are free.
