Drinks & Nightlife

Enjoy a drink (some especially fine ales) and some traditional English pub food while surrounded by history. The RAF bar where young WWII pilots would congregate and also the very place where scientists Crick and Watson announced their discovery of the "Secret of Life" (The structure of DNA) back in 1953. Open all day and evening but - why is that top window always open? Ask about The Eagle's very own ghost.

Shopping

The Market Square. The very heart of the city. There has been a market here for over 800 years and today the market is open 7 days a week offering a variety of interesting stalls Dixie's Vintage Clothes, The Hemp Store packed full of natural products, some excellent second hand book stalls with knowledgeable vendors, The Earth's Crust with delicious breads and patisseries, and a host of street food options from the traditional burger, the oriental, great falafels and my favourite the paella served up by the Valencia stall. Sunday presents a host of Arts and Crafts stalls from pottery, artists and photographers and the freshly harvested organic veg from Simon's Fen Farm.

Every Saturday discover the All Saints Arts and Crafts Market. "We make what we sell" is the moto and indeed only traders who make their own items are allowed to be part of this intimate little market. Everything here is unique so easy to find special gifts (or to treat yourself). Alan will make a fine leather belt for you while you wait while Les "The Hairy Growler" offers incredible jewellery made from old coins. Malcolm the wood turner has bowls, ear ring holders and lovely pens all turned from local recycled wood and Julian on the Coffee Bug will serve up a fine cup of coffee or tea for your to enjoy while you browse.

Food Scene

The Michaelhouse Cafe on Trinity Street is my favourite place to take a coffee or lunch in Cambridge. The food and ambience of the surroundings are very special as the cafe is situated in the nave of an old 15th century church. Also available simple and delicious lunches made, where possible, with locally sourced ingredients;
