Things to do on the East Side of the Island
Volcano National Park is located just outside of the village of Volcano. Just a short 40 minute trip from the Ohi'a Hideaway. Some areas have been closed following the 2018 lava flow largely due to earthquake damage. However, the parks is open and there is tons to explore! Highly recommended in early spring (March and April) when the Ohi'a blossoms are in bloom, absolutely gorgeous!

Traveling with kids? Or just love animals? Check out the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo. Admission is free, and you will see everything from exotic birds (including free roaming peacocks), to lemurs, and our two local tigers Ziggy and Sriracha :-)

A must visit! Just 10 minutes down the road towards Pahoa! The Maku'u Farmers Market is the biggest market on the island and is open every Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm. Best place to find delicious local produce. Vendors from all over the island come to the farmers market to sell local art and fashions. Be sure to get some shaved iced and plan to eat a good lunch while listening to local music. The perfect place to grab some souvenirs.
