“Edgar Allan Poe, American author, poet, editor and literary critic and a part of the American Romantic movement met his wife in Baltimore. Edgar Allan Poe lived with his aunt, Maria Clemm, and her family in this small duplex on North Amity Street in Baltimore from about 1832 until fall 1835. The month of October is usually associated with the strange and mysterious, and in Baltimore that’s especially true when it comes to “Poe-tober.” October is the perfect time to explore Edgar Allan Poe’s macabre life, his enigmatic death and everything in between with only-in Baltimore exhibitions, events and tours.”

“At the heart of Balimore's toniest urban neighborhood is America's first Washington Monument. Climb the 227 steps for great views of the city, and when you're done enjoy the cruciform park that stretches out from the monument's base. Each wing has its own fountain and cultivated grounds -- a great place to spend an afternoon reading outside.”

“Its establishment began on January 21, 1882 when long-time local hardware merchant, banking and steamship company executive and philanthropist Enoch Pratt, (1808-1896), offered a gift of a central library, four branch libraries , and a financial endowment of US $1,058,333 in a significant piece of correspondence to Mayor William Pinkney Whyte and the City Council of Baltimore. “The George Peabody Library, formerly known as the Library of the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore, is the 19th-century focused research library of The Johns Hopkins University. It is located on the Peabody campus at West Mount Vernon Place in the Mount Vernon-Belvedere historic cultural neighborhood north of downtown Baltimore, Maryland, across from the landmark Washington Monument. The collections are available for use by the general public, in keeping with the famous Baltimorean merchant/banker/financier/philanthropist George Peabody's goal to create a library "for the free use of all persons who desire to consult it"”
