On the north border of Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge only 20 minutes to the wine country and very close to downtown Novato, Indian Valley is behind one ridge, yet it seems like stepping into a gentler past. If you drive west, you can visit Stafford Lake, or continue out to Point Reyes, Tomales Bay and Bolinas in less than 30 minutes.

Green Gage Farm is a 2-acre permaculture artistic retreat with a small 'village' of housekeeping cottages, an orchard, a field, a barnyard, vignette gardens, horseshoe pit, basket swings, a bocce ball lawn, a cool tree house, chicken coops, hot tubs, an infrared sauna, W/D, homegrown food and outdoor dining

إمكانية وصول الضيف
The property also offers a horseshoe pit, Bocce lawn, infrared sauna, hot tub, gas grill, basket swings and outdoor dining areas. It is also a working farm with 30 hens, 2 pigs, 3 dogs and 2 cats. Magical nursery next door is open to the public on weekends. Easily accessible trailhead just down the road is a gentle walk to the College of Marin's Indian Valley Campus' Organic Farm. They sell their fantastic produce to the public on Wednesdays & Saturdays from 10 - 3pm. We also have bikes to lend experienced cruisers.

If you are considering any sort of event, please correspond first. Because we are on septic, we have limited ability to allow guests to host gatherings here.

We only have one pet-friendly cottage at this time. If you want to bring your pet, Unit A '1 Bedroom on Organic Farm' is the one you want.

Indian Valley is a 'Special District' of unincorporated Marin County. There are 350 residences here, some are 2nd generation. We self-govern, take care of our own fire-protection (we are in the official regional fire district, but we do our own brush-clearing, trails, etc.), and we many of us are on 'NextDoor' so it is über safe. I happen to be the webmaster and newsletter editor for the HOA, so a lot of neighbors are close friends who exchange homegrown produce, eggs, etc.

In 2008 I found myself living on a 2-acre farm in northwest Marin, a property I had intended to do a spec-build on, but instead I ended up keeping the 5 cottages and renourishing the farm - having never farmed before. The recession had pretty much debilitated my real estate development career, so I decided to upgrade the structures and go with the idea of a 'Permaculture B & B.' I'm a Marin County native and have lived in California my whole life. I was a journalist after majoring in writing and philosophy in college, after which I spent several years in retail - in the bedding industry! Worked for several vendors such as Macy's, Sheridan & Scandia Down Shop, and always did the window displays - having gone through the local community college's interior design certification program, as well as real estate studies. What a perfect blend of things to prep me for what I'm doing now! I love local history, and I am a graphic artist, photographer and painter. I've been a local landlord for 25+ years and enjoy great relationships with my tenants. I am keenly interested in the whole affordable housing issue, and participate on several committees involved with community development. (Website hidden by Airbnb) I do a bit of volunteer work locally (mostly graphics and PR for various non-profits), but mostly I work around the farm on a gazillion ongoing projects. Since being here I've really gotten into power tools and came to the realization that building has a lot in common with sewing - and is especially fun if you look at it all as art. The permaculture aspect is very compelling, and the more I learn, the more I am able to implement things that bring my costs down and my yields up - guest satisfaction, too! One thing that changed in the past few years is that I don't think I'm 'pretending' to be a farmer any more. I graduated in May 2013 from the Marin Master Gardener Program, so now I feel a little bit more capable of managing the landscape. I no longer look forward to sun down or shorter days, and I take my showers at night instead of the morning. My favorite time to be in the garden is in the hours before the sun sets when the light is all golden as the heat recedes. I love to garden in the moonlight on those balmy windless nights during the summer - with my headlamp. Warning - I'm a serious night-owl! I have a great helper/partner in managing the farm. Hendrik ('Hennie') grew up on a farm in South Africa, so although the weather and terrain are different, his passion for getting his hands in the soil is contagious. Hendrik is the 'guest services' guy, and gives visitors a delightful tour. He is on a first-name basis with all the animals, and encourages guests to ask for a bucket for scraps so they can feed the piggies, which is quite entertaining! Hendrik is the go-to guy in the mornings (which I shy away from). New this year is a 10-year lease with 'Homeground Habitats,' a group of volunteers helping friend Charlotte Torgovitsky-Holst. Charlotte is probably the most experienced and knowledgable gardener in Marin County. She currently works with the Marin Municipal Water District in the designation of invasive species in our open-space, as well as just having authored a book for them for resident to learn about fire-safe, Bay-friendly, water-wise and butterfly/bee gardening. Her resume goes on and on, so ridiculously impressive! If you see her in the lower field, don't hesitate to introduce yourself! I am definitely 'in my element' here - I love the challenge of developing the farm into the ultimate country experience for guests, where they can learn [hands-on, if they like] about composting, planting, animals and art. And don't forget to relax - hot tub, spa, hammock or meander... For a while, my life's motto has been one I learned long ago from Dr. Donald Palmer, my amazing philosophy mentor; 'Do not multiply entities beyond necessity' (Occham's Razor; the true meaning). The exception, of course, is succulents...!

Initial tour is not required, but recommended. Other than that, I (host) live on the property and work in the gardens often (sometimes into the night, if it's balmy...), so you can always strike up a conversation! I try to be helpful, not nosey or cloying. (To be honest, I'm pretty busy!)
