WELCOME!
Our home is a 100-year old, 2 bedroom fisherman's cottage perched above the approaches to Halifax's Northwest Arm. It was renovated by an artist in the 1970s so it has an interesting mix of 1950s cottage vibe with mid-century Bohemian (rough-hewn beams, cathedral ceilings).

INTRODUCTIONS: We are opening our home to like-minded people who believe in leaving places in better condition than they find them. BEFORE requesting to book, please write to tell us about yourselves - full names of yourself and your travel companions, who you are, what you do, why you're interested in staying with us, and whether you’re the kind of people who take pleasure in leaving places better than you found them. If you need ideas, check out my profile, and write me something similar about yourself!

LIVING ROOM: spacious with cathedral ceilings, wood stove, patio doors opening onto a deck overlooking Northwest Arm and Point Pleasant Park. Lovely tree and sea views. You can also catch glimpses of cruise ships and container ships entering Halifax Harbour and watch the sailboats coming and going. Some guests have recently seen whales. There is a cozy sleeping loft above the living room. Note that loft stairs do not have an external railing, so it is not suitable for children.

KITCHEN: fully equipped galley kitchen (with adjacent full dining room). Full size refrigerator, electric glass-top range, microwave, cooking utensils, dishes, etc.

DINING ROOM: bright windowed dining room looking onto our currently-very-wild garden. Hardwood floors, vintage furnishings.

BEDROOM 1: super-cute sun-filled bedroom with brand new Queen bed, and gorgeous tree and ocean views. New mattress. Blackout curtains. Plenty of closet space.

BEDROOM 2: Spacious room also with brand new Queen bed and new mattress; spectacular views through the trees of the Northwest Arm, and our wooded path to beach.

WATER SUPPLY: We are currently sprucing things up, and as of summer 2022 it is freshly painted, and there is an awesome new soaking tub and rain-like shower. We are however on a well and septic, with a limited water supply, so if long hot showers and abundant towels will make or break your vacation, we suggest one of the many downtown hotels!

PARKING: there is parking for one to two cars at the entrance to the house. The house sits at the top of a small hill - easily navigable by a confident driver; but not great for the hesitant. If you are the latter, please talk to us before attempting the parking spot and we can provide you with tips to put your mind at ease!

GROUNDS: the house fronts on the ocean, with a wooded path down to the rocky beach. The path is best for the sure-footed, but my fairly-agile 82 year old mother can handle it. On the non-ocean side of the house, there is our wild garden, our workshop, and a path into the woods. There are three houses on our property- we live next door, and my mother is in the next house over. We have have a popular Airbnb guest suite (Bohemian Seaside Studio) in the top of the house we occupy. While we will avoid overlapping in the yard when you are at 'home', we do use both it and the adjacent workshop. Our family and guests may also be using the path to the beach during your visit.

BEACH: we have over 150 feet of private rocky beach, gently sloping to the ocean. Swimming is possible, but nicer (and deeper) around the corner in the Cove proper. Water shoes helpful - we are gradually assembling a supply. Small fires are possible below the high water mark (depending on Halifax fire regulations at the time of your visit).

PAY IT FORWARD: We are working to develop a spirit of collaboration between hosts, guests and the world in general. We believe in the principle of ‘leaving things better than you found them’ and invite you to join us as temporary caretakers of this magical place. Guests of The Cove House leave the house in better shape than they found it, ready for the next arrival. This isn't for everyone but perhaps it is for you? Please let us know when you write your introductory pitch!

PRICING DISCLOSURE: We charge $275/night for our 3 bed oceanfront home, including everything you've just read about above (plus welcome treats and breakfast items). Our cleaner also charges a modest fee. Everything above that is occupancy tax (2%), federal HST tax (15%), and Airbnb service fees (17-23%). If you've paid less, it's because you were lucky enough to take advantage of a promotional offer. Jus' sayin'.

NOTE: During the summer of 2022, we will be building a sea wall to stabilize the slope, so the beach will be ‘under construction’ in between guests and machinery and materials will likely be on site.

A 15-20 min drive to the city core, Purcell's Cove is one of those rare places in the world that feels like a country 'getaway' but is perched on a busy international port. My immediate neighbours are artists, writers, filmmakers and yoga teachers. I grew up just next door (and have recently bought the house next-door) and can give you tips on what to see and visit while you stroll around.
