A cozy double room with balcony (16M2 total) in an elegant country house; ever changing hill forest & waters views of Khao Laem national park including Khao San Nok Wua mountain; modern bathroom; comfortable, bright, clean, well equipped, peaceful & private; minutes to coffee shops, resorts, restaurants, Mon bridge & the market. Free drinks, free parking, free WI-FI & soaps; super helpful & friendly host; perfect base for couples, friends & families communing with nature & border shopping.

Your own private room has a big comfortable double bed & bedside table and lamp; the traditional rosewood bed has pillows, bolster, blankets, extra pillows & freshly laundered, sun & air dried, bed linen; your room has both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan.

Your own private bathroom has modern ceramics, shower; essentials provided include freshly laundered towels sun & air dried, soap, body wash, tissues, shampoo & conditioner; there's a basin, mirror, twin mirror lights & large double windows with insect screens, security bars and solid teak shutters; you've a rail for hanging wet towels or wet clothes. Your own private bathroom is just 4 meters from your bedroom; there is only one other bedroom on the same floor with it's own private bathroom.

Your East facing private balcony has seating & a coffee table for relaxing; nearby is your wardrobe, with hangers. Your room windows have both insect screens and solid teak shutters (for sleep-in darkness) and the high balcony has a full safety grill.

The atmosphere is cool & private with beautiful hill forest views over a stream or the lake (seasonal flood), perhaps with mist or cloud hiding in the hills.

Security & safety features include locks on the bedroom doors, window bars, 3 pin shuttered electrical sockets with switches & a gated compound to provide you with a sense of safety.

There is one electrical socket near your bed and another two in the connected private hall; a strip of 4 universal power sockets plus 2 USB ports for charging at your finger tips plus free 24 hour WI-FI.

There's a small private hallway/living space where you can prepare your breakfast; your big fridge there is stocked with free bottled water & fresh milk for your stay; you'll find self-service of free coffee, tea & unlimited filtered free drinking water on the shelf stand next to your fridge.

Wake up to some delightful real (not reel) bird songs or catch some awesome scents of the flowers in bloom.

Make your visit more worthwhile & stay 2-3 days; enough time for your senses to re-calibrate & get in tune with nature.

You can find free parking on the premises or free roadside parking in front of the house with CCTV.

Villa Scenns is a unique, substantial, brick & terracotta cool country house designed & built by the current owner in 2009 in its own private gated compound. Your room, balcony, hall and bathroom size on the top floor is about 36M2, about 345ft2.

Our guests said they love the green peace feeling here, feeling at the heart of nature yet conveniently just 2-5 minutes walk to some of Sangkhla's coffee shops, resorts & restaurants.

On one side our garden borders the water, forest & hills of Khao Laem national park, on the other we're part of the Sangkhla buri residential & resort community; the busier market & shopping area is just 3 minutes drive (30 minutes walk).

Places to go & things you might like to see and do in & around Sangkhla include:

The Mon Bridge just 2 mins. ride (15 mins. walk) from Villa Scenns is the longest all wooden bridge in the world & perhaps the main centre of attraction in Sangkhla town, it provides a strong sense of place and is a focus for boating, swimming & daily Alms giving.

Bike riding.

Children's homes retail outlets.

Private cooking lessons (by appointment at Villa Scenns).

Walking street, Saturday evenings and some national holidays November - April.

Cultural events: The Thai, Mon, Karen, Lao & Burmese & other ethnic groups making up the community in this multi-cultural environment means many colourful ceremonies, festivals and other events during the year. So far these events & performances are by the locals for the locals, not performed specifically for visitors to Sangkhla; though visitors are welcome to attend & watch, most events are not advertised so it can be difficult to know where & when in advance. Generally however most events follow the Thai & Burmese Bhuddist calendars or a few days either side. The alms giving on Mon side is a daily event and very popular for Thai visitors to participate.

Around Sangkhla you can find jungle trekking & climbing, feet-in-the-river dining, waterfalls & caves to explore; visit and shop at the Three pagodas pass (Myanmar border); join a quality meditation centre, follow the Thai-Burma railway (1943-45) and more.

Our guests wrote Villa Scenns is a "great launch point to enjoy exploring Sangkhlaburi and the surrounding areas".

Our guests often find many interesting places and beautiful views en-route to Sangkhla arriving late afternoon or evening with time left to enjoy a walk around town or perhaps go canoeing on the lake under a blue sky, maybe enjoy the sunset from the bridge or mingle with people there.

For Day 2 guests might walk the long wooden Mon Bridge; watch or join the Alms giving in the traditional Mon village; see the sunrise & then take a boat trip to explore the lake, rivers and the three sunken temples; then perhaps a swim in the Breiki river with a picnic lunch on rocks or sand bank by a relaxing afternoon Thai massage &/or manicure perhaps or by dinner after a cooking lesson at Villa Scenns.

For Day 3 guests typically might visit and explore the waterfalls, do some jungle trekking in the healing forests; swim then eat papaya salad and sun dried beef or pork in natures own river; after that perhaps visit the caves & the Myanmar border town and in the evening eat at a lesser known restaurant in Sangkhla.

If you're itching to explore & seek more of a challenge perhaps you can climb some of the nearby peaks or search out the waterfalls for a cool dip; best to check on seasonal safety matters first and go with a guide if recommended.

You can find a real sense of oneness with nature and a sense of adventure in this area; be prepared for some unplugged travel due to lack of internet or phone signals in the remoter parts.

Our guests said they love the unspoiled people, the outdoors & the slow life here; you can feel at the heart of nature itself as Sangklaburi is deep within the Western Forest Complex, four and a half million acres (over 7,000 square miles) of natural habitat that straddles the Thai Myanmar border. People come to Sangkhla to relax. Life here is slow; not your typical tourist target.

Sawasdee Kaa, welcome to my home, Villa Scenns in the Sangkhla buri residential & resort community, a lovely place to stay.

Serving or helping others gives me energy, it lifts my spirit and I feel it helps the world so people call me super friendly and super helpful.

I enjoy gardening, cooking & eating good food here (especially the eating part!); I love good company, walking & traveling; I feel good when I'm being lazy, meditating, doing art work, practising yoga, singing & taking care of my dogs; these are all my favourite things to do.

I worked in the Bangkok hotel industry for awhile so I strive to provide a home stay with a professional touch.

Whether you like to relax in one of my four private bedrooms, chill out with complete privacy or realise a more delicious life with Scenn's Thai language, Thai cooking, or Thai dance tutorials, you will be welcome.

If you like to better understand Thai culture you'll find a truly unique experience here. As a Thai Classics & Culture graduate I guarantee you will enjoy my private tutorial experiences; step by step instructions by a fully qualified and experienced professional teacher (me!) in a serious but enjoyable way with a sprinkling of humour; my guests said "you won't find such high quality learning opportunities in the big cities as you will at Villa Scenns".

Deep in the spectacular Western Forest Complex, an incredibly rich & bio-diverse wild habitat covering 18,730 square km., is my home, in the small town of Sangkhlaburi.

My eco credentials include: air & sun dried laundry; chemical free garden; no car & no motor-bike, we walk or use public transport; recycling; we use & recommend local in-season food for cookery guests where we can including frequent locally foraged wild ingredients; we grow our own as much as we can; for every rosewood or tamarind tree we cut in our garden we planted ten or more; we suggest low-impact nature trails; we are preserving our original wooden Sangkla house; correct effluent treatment is installed. We walk the talk preserving the natural environment.

Villa Scenns is an ideal launch point from which to explore the lesser seen Sangkhlaburi region; an ideal atmosphere for relaxation or study, at the very heart of nature. When you book I will send you directions & more details of the things to do here.

Villa Scenns is a spacious, cool country house in a walled and gated compound; my chaos garden with exotic edibles touches the lake part of the year.

You will be welcomed on arrival by me &/or my family; after introductions and a room guide you will have complete privacy; once a day, if we don't see you, I will usually contact you to check all is well.

You can contact me (or Sea) if you have any questions at all; please feel free as I'm both the doorman & concierge; I live upstairs & I am usually available to give you guidance on anything relating to your stay; we will always offer to help you if we can.

I love meeting new people so I'm happy to chat with you if you wish & if time allows; I like to learn of your local adventures.

One friendly dog owns us but lives next door & won't visit your space; if you love dogs you can be introduced to her too.

Your house mates, if any, are usually very few as we've only three other rooms; you may not see anyone else apart from me.

We're very happy to give you face-to-face recommendations of any secret spots or local sights not yet online in the area if you wish; Sangkhla is not on the tourist trail yet & the nearest TAT tourist office is 200 km away in Kanchanaburi.

We don't share any space besides the gardens, front gates, garden seating, parking area and front entrance.
