We'll meet at WAQOO Shitaderamachi. I'll give you a brief introduction you should know before visiting a temple like how to visit properly and also lend you some Buddhist accessories like Prayer Beads. After that, we'll head to a nearby temple, Aizendo-Shoman-in. Only the participants of this experience are allowed to enter before its gate opens, usually, it opens from 9:00 am to 16:00 pm.
Religious service is a Buddhist worship ceremony in which sutras are read to Buddha. I offer you a very special program including chanted sutras and fire-offerings, so please enjoy to hear, see and feel that! If you have something to wish, including a wooden stick called Gomagi to write a wish on, that will be burned when a holy fire is lighted.
After religious service, I will show you around the temple while explaining histories and talking with the monk.
We'll move back to WAQOO Shitaderamachi, and then breakfast time! I offer you rice porridge that is a kind of traditional Japanese temple cuisines. My rice porridge is cooked of rice prayed at Aizendo-Shoman-in. I also prepare salted kelp and pickles made in a Temple in Osaka. They go very well with rice porridge.

-The principal image of Aizen Myoo is believed to bring luck in achieving a good marriage and in harmony between married couples.

-Please be punctual.
-On the way to the temple, there is a sharp slope, so please wear shoes that are easy to walk.
-Please act with consideration and good sense at the temple.
-This experience in Japanese or simple English.
-Please let me know if you are vegetarian or have any food allergies.

I love to visit temples or shrines in various areas in Japan when I went touring on my motorcycle. I used to work as an employee of Henjouson-in temple ( a temple lodging facility on Mt. Koya) and to serve Buddhist vegetarian cuisines for over 3 years. From 2017, I started to work as a guest experience staff at a WAQOO Shitaderamachi which is located in a unique temple district in Osaka. I always try to share my knowledge about temples with our guests if they want to know because I believe that knowledge will become a lifetime investment.

Aizendo Shoman-in Temple was founded in 593. It has a Tahoto pagoda made by one of the greatest samurai Hideyoshi Toyotomi, which is the oldest wooden building in Osaka city. It is said that the principal image of Aizen Myoo grant the bressing of matchmaking.

Worth the early meeting time! Wouldn’t have the chance to witness this special “fire worship” otherwise. The traditional Buddhist meal served afterward in the peaceful and serene hotel WAQOO was just as impressive. Overall a unique experience!

The host for my experience spoke both English and Chinese fluently. We met 0630hrs which is a bit early for me, but we had to arrive at the temple before the temple opens. Once arrived at the temple, the host shared with us all the proper temple rituals like bowing, washing of hands. The monk will then carry out his morning rituals and prayer beads are provided for you to pray while the ritual undergoes. The monk will then bless you and share about the temple. It’s like a private tour of the temple. The breakfast provided was excellent and in no way simple. Although vegetarian but they used blessed rice porridge and the many small dishes were delicious. Must try experience!
