Hello and welcome to a brief overview of the Arcosanti Architectural Photography Tour! We'll begin by meeting in Visitor's Center (Crafts III) and allow everyone to arrive, settle in and meet the tour guide Jessica. Before we depart everyone will have signed liability forms and media consent release forms. We'll officially begin the tour with an introduction to Arcosanti (the prototype Arcology) and the Cosanti Foundation. Location: Cafe Duration: 15m Next we'll head to the Red Room for a slideshow of archival photographs that document site over the decades, followed by an overview of architectural and creative photo techniques, a brief introduction to using aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lens choice, composition, camera modes. We'll end with a short Q&A. Location: Red Room Duration: 30m Now we're ready to take some photos! We'll depart from the Red Room and walk through site (unhurriedly) as a group with cameras and tripods to photograph unique architectural elements and structures. Location: All of Site Duration: 1.5h We'll conclude the tour with a debrief and tour feedback. Everyone is welcome to stay for lunch or dinner if food services are available in the Cafe (please inquire in advance). Location: Cafe Duration: 15m Please keep in mind this is mostly an outdoor walking tour and is subject to cancellation based on weather conditions, such as rain or snow.
Jessica Sypher is an Arcosanti resident and tour guide, arriving from the east coast of Canada as a professional photographer and environmental advocate. Jessica’s educational background includes a BA Honors in Environmental Studies and a graduate diploma in Environmental Visual Communication from the Royal Ontario Museum. She specializes in environmental portraits and creative on-location photography that takes advantage of the interplay between built and natural environments. Arcosanti has become her greatest muse.
The mission of the Cosanti Foundation is to explore the experiential and educational benefits of integrating Architecture and Ecology. The goals of the Cosanti Foundation are to further demonstrate the Arcosanti urban laboratory as a prototype Arcology, assume a significant role in the conversation surrounding environmental stewardship and inspire research.
